It's all about using a diffuser! These are tricks of the trade that I’ve learned over MANY years of trial and error. Massage your roots to keep your hair from sticking to your head and then scrunch again with the t-shirt. Try to apply product to your hair immediately after you’ve scrunched out some of the water with a t-shirt and then apply the products with your head flipped over. When you apply products to soaking wet hair it allows the product to lock in the moisture and keep the natural shine. Applying products to your hair when it isn’t soaking wet is working against your curls. Do NOT apply products to almost dry hair.Opt for creams, foams, oils, souffles and sea salt sprays to keep your curls light, bouncy and shiny. Even if I only use a tiny bit of gel, my hair has a wet look all day long. This one may differ depending on your curl type, but for me, gel and mousse make my hair super stiff. Do NOT use a mousse or strong hold gel.Finger combing lets your hair keeps its natural curl pattern because you aren’t separating it with bristles. Don’t reach for the brush more than two or three times a week, or only when you have a knot you can’t beat with your bare hands. Once you are out, scrunch the water out with the cotton t-shirt. Then part your hair with your fingers before you get out of the shower. Instead of using a brush or comb, use your fingers to comb through your hair while you have conditioner in it. I know, how will your hair get de-tangled? Wahhh! Trust me. If you don’t want to use a t-shirt, you can get a microfiber cloth/turban situation from Amazon. Use a cotton t-shirt to scrunch the water from your hair but do NOT shake it out with a bath towel. Using terrycloth leaves your hair frizzy and feathery. Important note: I’ve stopped using the DevaCurl products because of the hot water they’re in right now. It is more on the pricey end, but I’ve had it for years and think it is totally worth the investment. It keeps the airflow evenly spread to prevent your hair from blowing around like crazy and loosing the shape of your curls. You need the diffuser to do just that: diffuse. Do NOT use a blow dryer without a diffuser. These things will keep your curls from reaching their full potential and will leave you frizzy, crunchy, or worse: both.
