Like many other tragic characters though, even with their great intelligence, their hubris became their downfall. They were willing to commit any crime to justify their ends, which, true or not, they both claimed were well-meaning. ![]() Also, they were both narcissistic men, seeking power and convinced of their own importance. (Hank even called Walter the smartest guy he knew Veidt was known as the smartest man in the world.) I'd refer to both of them as mad scientists. They were both extremely intelligent men. There are similarities, though, between the characters Adrian Veidt (whose costumed vigilante alias had been Ozymandias) and of Walter White (who also used a pseudonym based on a person from history, Heisenberg). It's pretty clear that the episode name was alluding to the poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley, which is also what Alan Moore (writer of Watchmen) was also alluding to. Now, there's probably no reason to believe that Vince Gilligan was inspired by the Watchmen character in writing the Breaking Bad episode. There might not be many fans of that book on here, but this seemed like the best place to discuss. I searched "Watchmen" on here and found some, but not any extensive, discussion about the Ozymandias in Watchmen.
